Talk Title: A Brief Introduction to Affective Computing and Virtual Agents

Abstract: Affective computing is an area in Human Computer Interaction in which researchers explore the ways that computers can recognize, process,simulate and respond to human emotion and affect. It has numerous applications in a wide array of domains such as health care, education, robotic systems, and emotion monitoring.

Embodied conversational agents -also a branch of HCI- are computerized, animated, intelligent characters that are represented graphically with a body and face to interact with human users. Virtual conversational agents are used as consulting agents, tutors (in training environment), and personal agents.

In this talk I will briefly introduce the two fields in HCI and will provide a few examples of the state of the art ongoing projects.
